Immersive Art Installation / 2025
Osato
A VR recreation of Bay Area artist Maya Fuji's ancestral home, connecting heritage, memory, and unreal space.
What
Osato is an immersive art installation that recreates the ancestral home of Bay Area artist Maya Fuji in VR.
Why
The word “Osato” translates to one’s origins, past, or upbringing. The digital space serves as a connective thread between the unreal and the artist’s meditations on heritage, identity, and memory.
Context
The Osato VR experience was part of Osato/Quiet Conversations, a gallery exhibition presented by Maya Fuji and Shingo Yamazaki at Glass Rice in San Francisco from October 25 through December 6, 2025.
Value
The project shows how VR can hold quiet, intimate, culturally specific spaces without needing to behave like a conventional game.
